Now that we have gone through the first real storm since your company company completed our new roof, I feel confident in confirming my first impression that we have a first=class job. The roof is tight, solid and good-looking.
When we decided that we needed a new roof before the winter, I called three well-established local roofing companies for a survey and an estimate. One company never even returned my call. A second company sent a man who spent less than 20 minutes looking a the house, then told me that he would send an estimate "soon." his estimate came four weeks later and was a one-page, take-it-or-leave-it boilerplate form.

In contrast, you spent well over an hour examining the old roof, taking measurements, discussing various options with me and video-taping the details of the structure. you reviewed many options with us, showed us several types of shingles, discussed ridge ventilation and gutter guards and generally made it possible for us to make a thoroughly informed decision before proceeding. Your estimate was professional, informative and well organization and the prices quoted for the work were actually lower than we had anticipated.

When the work started, it was clear that your own professional attitude extended throughout the entire company. The vehicles were clean and businesslike and the men were efficient and considerate. When the crew found rotten wood under the old roof and it became clear that the scope of the work would have to be enlarged, Mark, your foreman, and Lou, your head carpenter, were careful to show me exactly what the problem was and how it could best be fixed. During the repairs, Lou kept me up to date on progress and even arranged things so that he wouldn't be hammering outside our granddaughter's window during her nap.

When the job was finished, the crew did a very thorough clean-up of the yard. Lou reviewed with me the lumber that was left over from the structural work so that there would be no question about the charge for materials in the final bill. Lou even returned a couple of days later to take care of a minor flashing detail that I would never have noticed.

All in all, we are very pleased with your company's performance. Neighbors of ours had roof work done by a large company at the same time that your crew was working here and the contrast was apparent. The were months behind schedule, the yard often looked like a gypsy camp and the work dragged on for weeks. Shumaker is a first class operation, one that we will be glad to recommend anytime.

I would like to thank you for the work that your company completed on my roof several weeks ago. As you recall I had purchase this property only one year ago after an inspector whom I hired assured me that the roof (and the bituminous membrane) were in good condition. Your company completed a total roof replacement with tapered insulation and EPDM roof membrane on August 4, 1995.

Although I am not a roofing expert I want to compliment you on the manner in which your firm completed this project. If I were to describe your work in one or two words, I would choose professionalism and excellence.

Dear Robert,

I'm writing to thank your crew and you for doing an excellent job replacing our roof back in September. Since the roof was replaced early in September, my wife and I have each found only one nail. The one my wife found rolled under the glider on the deck, and the one I found was in a tiny piece of shingle hanging in a bush. In other words, we found your clean-up job to be excellent.

The flashing which your people installed around the chimney looks much better than the flashing which was originally installed by the builder. Not only does it look much better, I know it is also doing its job, because I inspected the work from the inside by crawling around the attic during a big rainstorm and things were totally dry.
My only regret is that your company was no the one to put on the roof when the house was built. If I ever win the LOTTO and decide to have a house built, I will definitely specify that your company install the roof.
